I see a lot of come-ons and catch-phrases in travel ads. Many of the "buy now" sneak attacks sound the same, but I've got one that has possibilities -- if you'd like to sell some of your investment stock at last summer's prices.
As we are already deep into December, I will award my Travel Advertising Pitch of the Year to:
Here's the deal: If you own stocks from a list of 100 depressed S&P Stocks -- from Ford Motor Co. to Xerox Corp -- you may pay for a Caribbean vacation at Elite Island Resorts by selling your stock at values from July 1, back when you may wish you had sold them. Now you can, sort of a July at Christmas.
There are no black out dates during the next 12 months, from now through Dec. 20, 2009. But the transfer of stock must take place by Jan. 31, 2009, into a special Merrill Lynch account set up by Elite Island Resorts.
For instance, the all-inclusive rate for a family of four starts at $635 per night this December holiday season, highest rates of the year, at the Verandah Resort & Spa, Antigua. If you transfer American Express stock, which closed at approximately $20 on Dec. 4, 2008, toward the purchase of your vacation, Elite Island Resorts will value the stock at $40 per share (the price last July) in resort credit. So a seven-night vacation worth $4,445 can be “purchased” with 111 shares.
I've seen the Verandah Resort & Spa on Antigua, and it's a quality resort, well laid out with a private beach for swimming in shallows protected by a reef, with no motorized water craft. Some rooms have views of the ocean, others of the protected inlet.
The all-inclusive Caribbean resorts featured include Antigua's Verandah Resort & Spa; St. James’s Club & Villas; Galley Bay Resort & Spa. In the Grenadines, they include Palm Island Resort; and on Tortola, Long Bay Beach Resort & Villas, with dining plans. Call 866-237-1366 or visit Elite Island Resorts.
