Passengers aboard Allure of the Seas are getting a sneak peek with their cruise this week at the new "Puss in Boots," an animated 3-D movie from DreamWorks that stars the voices of Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek.
Royal Caribbean has an early copy of the movie that debuts nationally on Oct. 28 and will be showing it all week to passengers who left on Allure on Sunday for a week’s voyage into the Caribbean.
A red carpet premiere of "Puss in Boots" was held Sunday aboard the massive Allure, world's largest cruise ship and Royal Caribbean’s newest vessel.
Despite intermittent rain drops, the cat voices were looking casual and comfortable. Banderas and Hayek strolled a soggy red carpet, which was rolled out on a deck above the pool while the ship was docked in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
The actors stopped to chat with reporters and camera crews from television and the Internet.
"We are cats and we don't like the water," said Hayek. "But we decided to make an exception."
Special guests and media aboard the Allure for the day then headed to the ship’s theater to don 3-D glasses for the premier showing of “Puss in Boots.”
Pre-Shrek, the outlaw Puss in Boots
Back story for the movie is that long before he met Shrek, Puss in Boots – notorious fighter, lover and outlaw – becomes a hero when he sets off on an adventure with the tough and street smart Kitty Softpaws and the mastermind Humpty Dumpty.
The movie is PG for suggestive sexual situations, all of which fit perfectly with the intriguingly smooth voice of Banderas. Hayek is the voice of Kitty Softpaws, who is without claws.
For the premier, the movie was a hit. It’s quick paced and fun. The audience clearly enjoyed the soft adult humor, and the opportunity to see Banderas in person.
Royal Caribbean announced on Monday that all passengers aboard Allure of the Seas this week would get a sneak peek at “Puss in Boots.” As with other DreamWorks movies, “Puss in Boots” will be shown on other Royal Caribbean ships that are equipped to show them, including Oasis, Liberty and Freedom, when the movie debuts in theaters.
